History

The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce was formed in May of 1998 by combining the Greater Shamokin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Mt. Carmel Area Chamber of Commerce. The newly formed chamber now encompassed Shamokin, Mt. Carmel, Coal Township, Elysburg, Kulpmont, Paxinos, Trevorton and all areas between and surrounding. Our new name came about by identifying one thing that touched all of these areas – our water system which is located in the beautiful and bountiful Brush Valley.

Since then the Chamber has grown to almost 300 members strong and continues to reach out to business in the area to aid them in their endeavors. Membership benefits have been added such as discount phone service, health insurance, internet services, a low interest rate loan pool, and a wide variety of other insurance plans.

The Brush Valley Regional Chamber has revamped many of its standing committees by calling out for volunteers among the business community which has resulted in the Chamber taking leaps and strides towards its missions and goals. Results have been a stronger voice with our legislators by organizing quarterly events, forums, debates and working together towards the economic development of the area. The Chamber now hosts events such as the “Health & Wealth Fair”, “Women of the 21st Century Forum” and the “Brush Valley Business Showcase” and has developed workshops, more member-to-member events, and a speaker’s bureau. Most recently it has started working diligently on a new 501c 3 organizations. “The Brush Valley Foundation for Growth” which will target issues with educating our youth in the business world and the blight of the Brush Valley region.

Thanks to our volunteers and the spirit of our members the momentum towards becoming the leading business organization in Northumberland County has yet to slow down. It is for this reason that this Chamber will continue to grow and make the progress that is needed to insure a bright future for our business community.
