Throughout the spring, the Chamber holds several events such as our Career Symposium, Awards Dinner, Job Fair and Golf Tournament.
These events focus on several different aspects of our community and membership. As a Chamber, our focus is to increase economic development, support our local businesses and community groups.
Our annual Career Symposium focuses on two main areas, providing students with valuable information regarding employment and providing our membership with an opportunity to showcase their business. During this year’s symposium, students from Line Mountain, Mount Carmel, Shamokin and Our Lady of Lourdes were given the opportunity to listen to speakers concerning interviewing, social media, entrepreneurship and financial aid. Along with the speakers, students were given a tour of the Northumberland County Career and Technical Center and spoke with a variety of employers.
April is also the host of the Annual Awards Dinner, which is the Chamber’s opportunity to honor different businesses and individuals for all of their accomplishments. Many thriving businesses and individuals were nominated. Our winners this year were; Large Business of the Year, Durdachs; Small Business of the Year, Academy Sports Center; Community Pride Award, Northumberland County Council for the Arts; Elected Official of the Year, State Representative Kurt Masser; Business Person of the Year, Pat Mack; Member of the Year; Deb Yeager. The Chamber would like to congratulate our nominees, winners and all of Chamber members for all of their accomplishments.
The Job Fair, which is cosponsored by the PA CareerLink, CSO Community Action Agency and the Chamber, hosted nearly 40 employers. Close to 300 job seekers walked through the doors of Masser’s Banquet Hall on April 30.
Although it is a hectic time of the year, the Chamber is always working toward its mission of being a catalyst and advocate for economic and social growth and development while providing positive leadership throughout the Brush Valley Region.
